Salmi 49:13-20

13 Questa lor via è loro una pazzia; E pure i lor discendenti si compiacciono a seguire i lor precetti. Sela.

14 Saranno posti sotterra, come pecore; La morte li pasturerà; E gli uomini diritti signoreggeranno sopra loro in quella mattina; E il sepolcro consumerà la lor bella apparenza, Che sarà portata via dal suo abitacolo.

15 Ma Iddio riscuoterà l’anima mia dal sepolcro;

16 Non temere, quando alcuno sarà arricchito, Quando la gloria della sua casa sarà accresciuta.

17 Perciocchè, quando egli morrà non torrà seco nulla; La sua gloria non gli scenderà dietro.

18 Benchè egli abbia benedetta l’anima sua in vita sua; E tali ti lodino, se tu ti dài piacere, e buon tempo;

19 Quella verrà là ove è la generazion de’ suoi padri; Giammai in eterno non vedranno la luce.

20 L’uomo che è in istato onorevole, e non ha intelletto, È simile alle bestie che periscono.

Salmi 49:13-20 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Aben Ezra says this psalm is a very excellent one, since in it is explained the Light of the world to come, and of the rational and immortal soul; and Kimchi is of opinion that it respects both this world and that which is to come: and indeed it treats of the vanity of trusting in riches: of the insufficiency of them for the redemption of the soul; of the short continuance of worldly honour and substance; of the certainty of death, and of the resurrection of the dead. And the design of it is to expose the folly of trusting in uncertain riches, and to comfort the people of God under the want of them.
