BOOK II

Psalms 42-72

For the director of music. A "maskil" of the Sons of Korah.

1 As the deer1 pants for streams of water,2 so my soul pants3 for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts4 for God, for the living God.5 When can I go6 and meet with God? 3 My tears7 have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"8 4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul:9 how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God,10 with shouts of joy11 and thanksgiving12 among the festive throng.13 5 Why are you downcast,14 O my soul? Why so disturbed15 within me? Put your hope in God,16 for I will yet praise17 him, my Savior18 and 6 my God.19 Mya soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember20 you from the land of the Jordan,21 the heights of Hermon22--from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep23 in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.24 8 By day the LORD directs his love,25 at night26 his song27 is with me-- a prayer to the God of my life.28
