Let them give thanks1 to the LORD for his unfailing love2 and his wonderful deeds3 for men.
Let them exalt4 him in the assembly5 of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
He turned rivers into a desert,6 flowing springs7 into thirsty ground,
and fruitful land into a salt waste,8 because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
He turned the desert into pools of water9 and the parched ground into flowing springs;1036
there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
They sowed fields and planted vineyards11 that yielded a fruitful harvest;
he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,12 and he did not let their herds diminish.1339
Then their numbers decreased,14 and they were humbled15 by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
he who pours contempt on nobles16 made them wander in a trackless waste.1741
But he lifted the needy18 out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.19
