To the Church in Philadelphia

7 "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia1 write: These are the words of him who is holy2 and true,3 who holds the key of David.4 What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds.5 See, I have placed before you an open door6 that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.7 9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan,8 who claim to be Jews though they are not,9 but are liars--I will make them come and fall down at your feet10 and acknowledge that I have loved you.11 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you12 from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world13 to test14 those who live on the earth.15 11 I am coming soon.16 Hold on to what you have,17 so that no one will take your crown.18 12 Him who overcomes19 I will make a pillar20 in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God21 and the name of the city of my God,22 the new Jerusalem,23 which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. 13 He who has an ear, let him hear24 what the Spirit says to the churches.

To the Church in Laodicea

14 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea25 write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness,26 the ruler of God's creation.27 15 I know your deeds,28 that you are neither cold nor hot.29 I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.'30 But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.31 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire,32 so you can become rich; and white clothes33 to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness;34 and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.35 So be earnest, and repent.36 20 Here I am! I stand at the door37 and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,38 I will come in39 and eat with him, and he with me. 21 To him who overcomes,40 I will give the right to sit with me on my throne,41 just as I overcame42 and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear43 what the Spirit says to the churches."
