For what the law was powerless1 to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,a2 God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man3 to be a sin offering.b4 And so he condemned sin in sinful man,c4
in order that the righteous requirements5 of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.65
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires;7 but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.86
The mind of sinful mand is death,9 but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life10 and peace;
the sinful minde is hostile to God.11 It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.
Those controlled by the sinful nature12 cannot please God.
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature13 but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.14 And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,15 he does not belong to Christ.
But if Christ is in you,16 your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead17 is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies18 through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it.1913
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die;20 but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,21 you will live,2214
because those who are led by the Spirit of God23 are sons of God.2415
For you did not receive a spirit25 that makes you a slave again to fear,26 but you received the Spirit of sonship.f And by him we cry, ""Abba,"g Father."27
