13 "Behold, then, I smite My hand at your 1dishonest gain which you have acquired and at the bloodshed which is among you.

Ezekiel 22:13 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 22:13

Behold, therefore, I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest
gain which thou hast made
As one amazed at it; or as filled with indignation against it; or as grieved and distressed at it; so Jarchi and Kimchi: or else as rejoicing at the punishment going to be inflicted on them for it. So the Septuagint renders it,

``I will bring my hand upon them;''
and the Targum,
``behold, I will bring my vengeance upon thee for the sins of mammon
Jarchi and Kimchi observe from their Rabbins, that four and twenty sins are recited by Ezekiel; but the final sentence of punishment is for rapine or dishonest gain, which is the greatest evil of all, ( 1 Timothy 6:10 ) : and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee;
the innocent blood shed in the midst of her; not so much by thieves and cutthroats, as under a pretence of justice which was very abominable indeed; against which the Lord expresses just and strong resentment.

Ezekiel 22:13 In-Context

11 "One has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law. And another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter.
12 "In you they have taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and profits, and you have injured your neighbors for gain by oppression, and you have forgotten Me," declares the Lord GOD.
13 "Behold, then, I smite My hand at your dishonest gain which you have acquired and at the bloodshed which is among you.
14 "Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong in the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD , have spoken and will act.
15 "I will scatter you among the nations and I will disperse you through the lands, and I will consume your uncleanness from you.
