Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?

[The Transfiguration] [17:1-8pp -- Lk 9:28-36 17:1-13pp -- Mk 9:2-13] After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.

When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets.

[Jesus Heals Many] [1:29-31pp -- Mt 8:14,15; Lk 4:38,39 1:32-34pp -- Mt 8:16,17; Lk 4:40,41] As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.

James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means Sons of Thunder);

Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.

Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.

[The Transfiguration] [9:2-8pp -- Lk 9:28-36 9:2-13pp -- Mt 17:1-13] After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.

[The Request of James and John] [10:35-45pp -- Mt 20:20-28] Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."

When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John.

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately,

He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.

Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.

[The Resurrection] [16:1-8pp -- Mt 28:1-8; Lk 24:1-10] When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body.

and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men."

Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,

Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot,

Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child's father and mother.

[The Transfiguration] [9:28-36pp -- Mt 17:1-8; Mk 9:2-8] About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.

When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them ?"

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.

When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.

He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.

Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. "Tell James and the brothers about this," he said, and then he left for another place.

When they finished, James spoke up: "Brothers, listen to me.

The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James, and all the elders were present.

Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,

I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother.

James, Peter and John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.

Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.
