Joshua 13:8-13

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

8 With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh[a] the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, 1which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them:
9 2from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and 3all the tableland of Medeba as far as Dibon;
10 4and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites;
11 and Gilead, and the 5region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and 6all Bashan to Salecah;
12 7all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he alone was left of 8the remnant of the Rephaim); 9these Moses had struck and driven out.
13 10Yet the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day.

Joshua 13:8-13 Meaning and Commentary

\\INTRODUCTION JOSHUA 13\\

In this chapter Joshua is informed by the Lord, or put in mind, that
part of the land of Canaan remained unconquered, and which it was; and
is directed to divide the whole land among the nine tribes, and the
half tribe of Manasseh, Jos 13:1-9; and since the two tribes of Reuben
and Gad, and the other half tribe of Manasseh, had received their
inheritance on the other side Jordan, Jos 13:8; that is described in
general, Jos 13:9-14; and, then the particular portion of Reuben,
Jos 13:15-23; and of Gad, Jos 13:24-28; and of the half tribe of
Manasseh, Jos 13:29-33.
