Then when 1Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he feltremorse and returned2the thirtypieces of silver to the chiefpriests and elders,

saying, "I have sinned by betrayinginnocentblood." But they said, "What is that to us? 3See to that yourself!"

And he threw the pieces of silver into 4the templesanctuary and departed; and 5he wentaway and hanged himself.

The chiefprieststook the pieces of silver and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the templetreasury, since it is the price of blood."

And they conferred*together and with the moneybought the Potter'sField as a burialplace for strangers.

6For thisreason that field has been called the Field of Blood to thisday.

Then that which was spokenthroughJeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: "7AND THEY TOOK THE THIRTYPIECES OF SILVER, THE PRICE OF THE ONE WHOSEPRICE HAD BEEN SET by the sons of Israel;

8AND THEY GAVE THEM FOR THE POTTER'SFIELD, AS THE LORDDIRECTED
