Mark 10:51 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 10:51

And Jesus answered and said unto him
Being come to him, and standing before him:

what wilt thou that I should do unto thee?
What means this vehement cry? what is it thou designest by mercy? is it money thou askest for, to relieve thy wants? or is it that thy sight may be restored?

The blind man said unto him, Lord;
"Rabboni", or, as the Syriac version reads it; "Rabbi"; thou, great master in Israel, and Lord, of the whole world, my request to thee, and which thou, art, able to effect; is,

that I might receive my sight; (See Gill on Matthew 20:33).

Mark 10:51 In-Context

49 And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him here." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage, stand up! He is calling for you."
50 Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
51 And answering him, Jesus said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!"
52 And Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.
