Isaiah 21:6

6 For thus the Lord says to me, "Go, station the lookout, let him 1report what he sees.

Isaiah 21:6 Meaning and Commentary

Isaiah 21:6

For thus hath the Lord said unto me
This is a confirmation of the above prophecy from the Lord himself, he showing to the prophet, in a visionary way, the ruin of Babylon, and the means and instruments of it: go, set a watchman;
not Habakkuk, as Jarchi; nor Urias, as the Septuagint; nor Jeremiah, as others; but himself, who, in a way of vision, represented a watchman on the walls of Babylon; and which was no way unsuitable to his character and office as a prophet: let him declare what he seeth;
what he sees coming at a distance, or at hand, let him faithfully and publicly make it known: these are not the words of the king of Babylon to one of his watchmen; but of the Lord of hosts to his prophet.

Isaiah 21:6 In-Context

4 My mind reels, horror overwhelms me; The twilight I longed for has been turned for me into trembling.
5 They set the table, they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink; "Rise up, captains, oil the shields,"
6 For thus the Lord says to me, "Go, station the lookout, let him report what he sees.
7 "When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs, A train of donkeys, a train of camels, Let him pay close attention, very close attention."
8 Then the lookout called, "O Lord , I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post.
