Therefore, rid yourselves1 of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander2 of every kind.

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk,3 so that by it you may grow up4 in your salvation,

now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.5

As you come to him, the living Stone6--rejected by human beings but chosen by God7 and precious to him--

you also, like living stones, are being built8 into a spiritual housea9 to be a holy priesthood,10 offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.116
For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone,12 and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."b137
Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,14 "The stone the builders rejected15 has become the cornerstone,"c16
