This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer,1 the Holy One2 of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives3 all the Babylonians,a4 in the ships in which they took pride.
I am the LORD,5 your Holy One, Israel's Creator,6 your King.7"
This is what the LORD says-- he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,817
who drew out9 the chariots and horses,10 the army and reinforcements together,11 and they lay12 there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:1318
"Forget the former things;14 do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!15 Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness16 and streams in the wasteland.1720
The wild animals18 honor me, the jackals19 and the owls, because I provide water20 in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed21 for myself22 that they may proclaim my praise.2322
"Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied24 yourselves forb me, Israel.2523
You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings,26 nor honored27 me with your sacrifices.28 I have not burdened29 you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands30 for incense.3124
You have not bought any fragrant calamus32 for me, or lavished on me the fat33 of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied34 me with your offenses.3525
"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions,36 for my own sake,37 and remembers your sins38 no more.3926
Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together;40 state the case41 for your innocence.
Your first father42 sinned; those I sent to teach43 you rebelled44 against me.
So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple; I consigned Jacob to destructionc45 and Israel to scorn.46
