John 7:14 Meaning and Commentary

John 7:14

Now about the midst of the feast
About the fourth day of it, for it lasted eight days; this might be on the sabbath day, which sometimes was (gxh Kwtb) , "in the middle of the feast" F14; and the rather, since it follows,

Jesus went up into the temple;
as the Lord and proprietor of it, and as was his usual method; he had for some reasons kept himself retired till now, and now he appeared publicly:

and taught
the people his doctrine; he expounded the Scriptures, gave the true sense of them, and instructed the people out of them.

John 7:14 In-Context

12 And much grumbling [And much grutching] was of him among the people. For some said, That he is good; and others said, Nay, but he deceiveth the people;
13 nevertheless no man spake openly of him, for dread of the Jews.
14 But when the middle feast day came, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15 And the Jews wondered, and said [saying], How knoweth this man letters, since he hath not learned?
16 Jesus answered to them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
