Psalms 105:26-45

He sent Moses His servant, and Aaron, whom He had chosen.
They performed His miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.[a] [b]
He sent darkness, and it became dark- for did they[c] not defy His commands?[d]
He turned their waters into blood and caused their fish to die.[e]
Their land was overrun with frogs, even in their kings' chambers.[f]
He spoke, and insects came[g]- gnats throughout their country.[h]
He gave them hail for rain, and lightning throughout their land.
He struck their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their territory.[i]
He spoke and locusts came- young locusts without number.
They devoured all the vegetation in their land and consumed the produce of their soil.[j]
He struck all the firstborn in their land, all their first progeny.[k]
Then He brought Israel out with silver and gold,[l] and no one among His tribes stumbled.
Egypt was glad when they left, for dread of Israel[m] had fallen on them.[n]
He spread a cloud as a covering and [gave] a fire to light up the night.[o]
They asked, and He brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven.[p]
He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert.[q]
For He remembered His holy promise to Abraham His servant.
He brought His people out with rejoicing, His chosen ones with shouts of joy.
He gave them the lands of the nations, and they inherited what other peoples had worked for.
[All this happened] so that they might keep His statutes and obey His laws. Hallelujah!

Psalms 105:26-45 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 105

This psalm was penned by David, and sung at the time when the ark was brought from the house of Obededom to the place which David had prepared for it; at least the first fifteen verses of it, the other part being probably added afterwards by the same inspired penman, as appears from 1Ch 16:1-7. The subject matter of the psalm is the special and distinguishing goodness of God to the children of Israel, and to his church and people, of which they were typical: the history of God's regard to and care of their principal ancestors, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph and of the whole body of the people, in bringing them out of Egypt, leading them through the wilderness, and settling them in the land of Canaan, is here recited, as an argument for praise and thankfulness.
