1They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, 2so that [a]it would be shown that they all are not of us.

[b]But you have an 3anointing from 4the HolyOne, and 5you allknow.

I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but 6because you do know it, and [c]becauseno*lie is 7of the truth.

Who is the liar but 8the one who denies that Jesus is the [d]Christ? This is 9the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

10Whoeverdenies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Sonhas the Fatheralso.

As for you, let that abide in you which you heard11from the beginning. Ifwhat you heard from the beginningabides in you, you also12will abide in the Son and in the Father.
The Promise Is Eternal Life
2513This is the promisewhich He Himself[e]made to us: eternallife.

Thesethings I have written to you concerningthose who are trying to 14deceive you.

As for you, the 15anointingwhich you received from Him abides in you, and you havenoneed for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing16teaches you aboutallthings, and is 17true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, [f]you abide in Him.

Now, 18littlechildren, abide in Him, so that when He 19appears, we may have20confidence and 21not [g]shrinkaway from Him in shame[h]at His 22coming.

If you know that 23He is righteous, you know that everyonealso who practicesrighteousness24is [i]born of Him.
