15SoJesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force1to make Him king, 2withdrewagain to 3the mountain by Himselfalone.
16
Nowwheneveningcame, His 4discipleswentdown to the sea,
17
and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea5to Capernaum. It had alreadybecomedark, and Jesus had not yetcome to them.
18
The sea began to be stirred up because a strongwind was blowing.
19
Then, when they had rowedaboutthree*or four miles, they sawJesuswalking on the sea and drawingnear to the boat; and they were frightened.
20
But He said to them, "It is I; 6do not be afraid."
21
So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
22
The nextday7the crowd that stood on the otherside of the seasaw that there was noothersmallboatthere, exceptone, and that Jesus8had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had goneawayalone.
23
There cameothersmallboats from 9Tiberiasnear to the placewhere they ate the bread after the 10Lord11had giventhanks.
24
Sowhen the crowdsaw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselvesgot into the smallboats, and 12came to CapernaumseekingJesus.
25
When they found Him on the otherside of the sea, they said to Him, "13Rabbi, when did You gethere?"
Words to the People
26Jesusanswered them and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you 14seek Me, not because you saw15signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27
"Do not 16work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to 17eternallife, which18the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, 19has set His seal."
28
Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?"
29
Jesusanswered and said to them, "This is 20the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He 21has sent."
30
So they said to Him, "22Whatthen do You do for a 23sign, so that we may see, and believe You? Whatwork do You perform?
31
"24Our fathersate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, '25HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.' "
32
Jesusthensaid to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the truebread out of heaven.
33
"For the bread of God is that which 26comesdown out of heaven, and giveslife to the world."
34
Then they said to Him, "Lord, always27give us thisbread."
35
Jesussaid to them, "28I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me 29will never*thirst.
36
"But 30I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.
37
"31All that the Fathergives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly* not cast out.
38
"For 32I have comedown from heaven, 33not to do My ownwill, but 34the will of Him who 35sent Me.
39
"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of 36all that He has given Me I 37losenothing, but 38raise it up on the lastday.
40
"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who 39beholds the Son and 40believes in Him will haveeternallife, and I Myself will 41raise him up on the lastday."
