And he questioned Him at somelength*; but 1He answered him nothing.

And the chiefpriests and the scribes were standing there, accusing Him vehemently.

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, 2dressed Him in a gorgeousrobe and sent Him back to Pilate.

Now3Herod and Pilatebecamefriends with oneanother that veryday; for before they had been*enemies with eachother.
Pilate Seeks Jesus' Release
13Pilatesummoned the chiefpriests and the 4rulers and the people,

and said to them, "You broughtthisman to me as one who 5incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I 6have foundnoguilt in thisman regarding the chargeswhich you makeagainst Him

"No, nor has 7Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothingdeservingdeath has beendone by Him.
16
"Therefore I will 8punish Him and release Him."
17
[Now he was obliged* to release to them at the feastone prisoner.]
18
But they cried out alltogether, saying, "9Away with thisman, and release for us Barabbas!"

(He was onewho had been thrown into prison for an insurrectionmade in the city, and for murder.
