and laid it in his own newtomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled1a largestone against the entrance of the tomb and wentaway.

And 2MaryMagdalene was there, and the otherMary, sittingopposite the grave.

Now on the nextday, the dayafter3the preparation, the chiefpriests and the Phariseesgatheredtogether with Pilate,

and said, "Sir, we remember that when He was stillalive that deceiversaid, '4Afterthreedays I am to riseagain.'

"Therefore, giveorders for the grave to be madesecureuntil the thirdday, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the lastdeception will be worse than the first."

Pilatesaid to them, "You have a 5guard; go, make it as secure as you knowhow."

And they went and made the gravesecure, and along with 6the guard they set a 7seal on 8the stone.
