2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Isaiah 30:1-10

1 "Woe to the rebellious children," declares the LORD , "Who execute a plan, but not Mine, And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin;
2 Who proceed down to Egypt Without consulting Me, To take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh And to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
3 "Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation.
4 "For their princes are at Zoan And their ambassadors arrive at Hanes.
5 "Everyone will be ashamed because of a people who cannot profit them, Who are not for help or profit, but for shame and also for reproach."
6 The oracle concerning the beasts of the Negev. Through a land of distress and anguish, From where come lioness and lion, viper and flying serpent, They carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys And their treasures on camels' humps, To a people who cannot profit them;
7 Even Egypt, whose help is vain and empty. Therefore, I have called her "Rahab who has been exterminated."
8 Now go, write it on a tablet before them And inscribe it on a scroll, That it may serve in the time to come As a witness forever .
9 For this is a rebellious people, false sons, Sons who refuse to listen To the instruction of the LORD ;
10 Who say to the seers, "You must not see visions"; And to the prophets, "You must not prophesy to us what is right, Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions.

1 Kings 22:1-8

1 Three years passed without war between Aram and Israel.
2 In the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3 Now the king of Israel said to his servants, "Do you know that Ramoth-gilead belongs to us, and we are still doing nothing to take it out of the hand of the king of Aram?"
4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?" And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."
5 Moreover, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Please inquire first for the word of the LORD ."
6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle or shall I refrain?" And they said, "Go up, for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king."
7 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not yet a prophet of the LORD here that we may inquire of him?"
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD , but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. He is Micaiah son of Imlah." But Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so."

1 Kings 22:13

13 Then the messenger who went to summon Micaiah spoke to him saying, "Behold now, the words of the prophets are uniformly favorable to the king. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably."

Jeremiah 6:8-14

8 "Be warned, O Jerusalem, Or I shall be alienated from you, And make you a desolation, A land not inhabited."
9 Thus says the LORD of hosts, "They will thoroughly glean as the vine the remnant of Israel; Pass your hand again like a grape gatherer Over the branches."
10 To whom shall I speak and give warning That they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed And they cannot listen. Behold, the word of the LORD has become a reproach to them; They have no delight in it.
11 But I am full of the wrath of the LORD ; I am weary with holding it in. "Pour it out on the children in the street And on the gathering of young men together; For both husband and wife shall be taken, The aged and the very old .
12 "Their houses shall be turned over to others, Their fields and their wives together; For I will stretch out My hand Against the inhabitants of the land," declares the LORD .
13 "For from the least of them even to the greatest of them, Everyone is greedy for gain, And from the prophet even to the priest Everyone deals falsely.
14 "They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying, 'Peace, peace,' But there is no peace.

Jeremiah 23:9-40

9 As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, All my bones tremble; I have become like a drunken man, Even like a man overcome with wine, Because of the LORD And because of His holy words.
10 For the land is full of adulterers; For the land mourns because of the curse. The pastures of the wilderness have dried up. Their course also is evil And their might is not right.
11 "For both prophet and priest are polluted; Even in My house I have found their wickedness," declares the LORD .
12 "Therefore their way will be like slippery paths to them, They will be driven away into the gloom and fall down in it; For I will bring calamity upon them, The year of their punishment," declares the LORD .
13 "Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an offensive thing: They prophesied by Baal and led My people Israel astray.
14 "Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: The committing of adultery and walking in falsehood; And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one has turned back from his wickedness. All of them have become to Me like Sodom, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah
15 "Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets, 'Behold, I am going to feed them wormwood And make them drink poisonous water, For from the prophets of Jerusalem Pollution has gone forth into all the land.' "
16 Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; They speak a vision of their own imagination, Not from the mouth of the LORD .
17 "They keep saying to those who despise Me, 'The LORD has said, "You will have peace "'; And as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, They say, 'Calamity will not come upon you.'
18 "But who has stood in the council of the LORD , That he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened?
19 "Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone forth in wrath, Even a whirling tempest; It will swirl down on the head of the wicked
20 "The anger of the LORD will not turn back Until He has performed and carried out the purposes of His heart; In the last days you will clearly understand it.
21 "I did not send these prophets, But they ran. I did not speak to them, But they prophesied
22 "But if they had stood in My council, Then they would have announced My words to My people, And would have turned them back from their evil way And from the evil of their deeds.
23 "Am I a God who is near," declares the LORD , "And not a God far off ?
24 "Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?" declares the LORD . "Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?" declares the LORD .
25 "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, 'I had a dream, I had a dream!'
26 "How long ? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart,
27 who intend to make My people forget My name by their dreams which they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot My name because of Baal?
28 "The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?" declares the LORD .
29 "Is not My word like fire?" declares the LORD , "and like a hammer which shatters a rock?
30 "Therefore behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD , "who steal My words from each other.
31 "Behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD , "who use their tongues and declare, 'The Lord declares.'
32 "Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams," declares the LORD , "and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit," declares the LORD .
33 "Now when this people or the prophet or a priest asks you saying, 'What is the oracle of the LORD ?' then you shall say to them, 'What oracle?' The LORD declares, 'I will abandon you.'
34 "Then as for the prophet or the priest or the people who say, 'The oracle of the LORD ,' I will bring punishment upon that man and his household.
35 "Thus will each of you say to his neighbor and to his brother, 'What has the LORD answered?' or, 'What has the LORD spoken?'
36 "For you will no longer remember the oracle of the LORD , because every man's own word will become the oracle, and you have perverted the words of the living God, the LORD of hosts, our God
37 "Thus you will say to that prophet, 'What has the LORD answered you?' and, 'What has the LORD spoken?'
38 "For if you say, 'The oracle of the LORD !' surely thus says the LORD , 'Because you said this word, "The oracle of the LORD !" I have also sent to you, saying, "You shall not say, 'The oracle of the LORD !' "
39 "Therefore behold, I will surely forget you and cast you away from My presence, along with the city which I gave you and your fathers.
40 "I will put an everlasting reproach on you and an everlasting humiliation which will not be forgotten."

Ezekiel 13

1 Then the word of the LORD came to me saying,
2 "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their own inspiration, 'Listen to the word of the LORD !
3 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe to the foolish prophets who are following their own spirit and have seen nothing.
4 "O Israel, your prophets have been like foxes among ruins.
5 "You have not gone up into the breaches, nor did you build the wall around the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the LORD .
6 "They see falsehood and lying divination who are saying, 'The LORD declares,' when the LORD has not sent them; yet they hope for the fulfillment of their word.
7 "Did you not see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you said, 'The LORD declares,' but it is not I who have spoken?""'
8 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "Because you have spoken falsehood and seen a lie, therefore behold, I am against you," declares the Lord GOD.
9 "So My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will have no place in the council of My people, nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel, that you may know that I am the Lord GOD.
10 "It is definitely because they have misled My people by saying, 'Peace!' when there is no peace. And when anyone builds a wall, behold, they plaster it over with whitewash;
11 so tell those who plaster it over with whitewash, that it will fall. A flooding rain will come, and you, O hailstones , will fall; and a violent wind will break out.
12 "Behold, when the wall has fallen, will you not be asked, 'Where is the plaster with which you plastered it?"'
13 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "I will make a violent wind break out in My wrath. There will also be in My anger a flooding rain and hailstones to consume it in wrath.
14 "So I will tear down the wall which you plastered over with whitewash and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation is laid bare; and when it falls, you will be consumed in its midst. And you will know that I am the LORD .
15 "Thus I will spend My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it over with whitewash; and I will say to you, 'The wall is gone and its plasterers are gone,
16 along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace,' declares the Lord GOD.
17 "Now you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who are prophesying from their own inspiration. Prophesy against them
18 and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe to the women who sew magic bands on all wrists and make veils for the heads of persons of every stature to hunt down lives! Will you hunt down the lives of My people, but preserve the lives of others for yourselves?
19 "For handfuls of barley and fragments of bread, you have profaned Me to My people to put to death some who should not die and to keep others alive who should not live, by your lying to My people who listen to lies.""'
20 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am against your magic bands by which you hunt lives there as birds and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let them go, even those lives whom you hunt as birds.
21 "I will also tear off your veils and deliver My people from your hands, and they will no longer be in your hands to be hunted; and you will know that I am the LORD .
22 "Because you disheartened the righteous with falsehood when I did not cause him grief, but have encouraged the wicked not to turn from his wicked way and preserve his life,
23 therefore, you women will no longer see false visions or practice divination, and I will deliver My people out of your hand. Thus you will know that I am the LORD ."

Micah 2:1-11

1 Woe to those who scheme iniquity, Who work out evil on their beds! When morning comes, they do it, For it is in the power of their hands.
2 They covet fields and then seize them, And houses, and take them away. They rob a man and his house, A man and his inheritance.
3 Therefore thus says the LORD , "Behold, I am planning against this family a calamity From which you cannot remove your necks; And you will not walk haughtily, For it will be an evil time.
4 "On that day they will take up against you a taunt And utter a bitter lamentation and say, 'We are completely destroyed! He exchanges the portion of my people; How He removes it from me! To the apostate He apportions our fields.'
5 "Therefore you will have no one stretching a measuring line For you by lot in the assembly of the LORD .
6 'Do not speak out,' so they speak out. But if they do not speak out concerning these things, Reproaches will not be turned back.
7 "Is it being said, O house of Jacob: 'Is the Spirit of the LORD impatient? Are these His doings?' Do not My words do good To the one walking uprightly?
8 "Recently My people have arisen as an enemy - You strip the robe off the garment From unsuspecting passers-by, From those returned from war.
9 "The women of My people you evict, Each one from her pleasant house. From her children you take My splendor forever.
10 "Arise and go, For this is no place of rest Because of the uncleanness that brings on destruction, A painful destruction.
11 "If a man walking after wind and falsehood Had told lies and said, 'I will speak out to you concerning wine and liquor,' He would be spokesman to this people.

Romans 16:17-18

17 Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.
18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

2 Samuel 15:1-6

1 Now it came about after this that Absalom provided for himself a chariot and horses and fifty men as runners before him.
2 Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way to the gate; and when any man had a suit to come to the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him and say, "From what city are you?" And he would say, "Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel."
3 Then Absalom would say to him, "See, your claims are good and right, but no man listens to you on the part of the king."
4 Moreover, Absalom would say, "Oh that one would appoint me judge in the land, then every man who has any suit or cause could come to me and I would give him justice."
5 And when a man came near to prostrate himself before him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.
6 In this manner Absalom dealt with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole away the hearts of the men of Israel.

Colossians 2:1-4

1 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face,
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself,
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument.
