Muerte de la esposa de Ezequiel

15 El SEÑOR me dirigió la palabra:

16 «Hijo de hombre, voy a quitarte de golpe la mujer que te deleita la vista. Pero no llores ni hagas lamentos, ni dejes tampoco que te corran las lágrimas.

17 Gime en silencio y no hagas duelo por los muertos. Átate el turbante, cálzate los pies, y no te cubras la barba ni comas el pan de duelo».

18 Por la mañana le hablé al pueblo, y por la tarde murió mi esposa. A la mañana siguiente hice lo que se me había ordenado.

19 La gente del pueblo me preguntó: «¿No nos vas a explicar qué significado tiene para nosotros lo que estás haciendo?»

20 Yo les contesté: «El SEÑOR me dirigió la palabra y me ordenó

21 advertirle al pueblo de Israel que así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: “Voy a profanar mi santuario, orgullo de su fortaleza, el templo que les deleita la vista y en el que depositan su afecto. Los hijos y las hijas que ustedes dejaron morirán a filo de espada,

22 y ustedes harán lo mismo que yo: no se cubrirán la barba ni comerán el pan de duelo.

23 Llevarán el turbante sobre la cabeza y se calzarán los pies. No llorarán ni harán lamentos, sino que se pudrirán a causa de sus pecados y gemirán unos con otros.

24 Ezequiel les servirá de señal, y ustedes harán lo mismo que él hizo. Cuando esto suceda, sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR omnipotente”.

25 »Y tú, hijo de hombre, el día en que yo les quite su fortaleza, su alegría y su gozo, el templo que les deleita la vista, el deseo de su corazón, y a sus hijos e hijas,

26 vendrá un fugitivo a comunicarte la noticia.

27 Ese mismo día se te soltará la lengua y dejarás de estar mudo. Entonces podrás hablar con el fugitivo; servirás de señal para ellos, y sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR».

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 24

Is this chapter the destruction of the city and temple of Jerusalem is prophesied of; the former under the parable of a boiling pot; the latter is represented by the sudden death of Ezekiel's wife. The time of this prophecy was that very day the king of Babylon began the siege of Jerusalem, Eze 24:1,2, the parable of the boiling pot, Eze 24:3-5, the explanation and application of it to the city of Jerusalem, Eze 24:6-14, the prophet is told of the death of his wife, and bid not to mourn on that account, which accordingly came to pass, Eze 24:15-18, upon the people's inquiring what these things meant, he informs them that hereby was signified the profanation of the temple; and that their distress should be so great, that they should not use any set forms of mourning, but pine away and die, Eze 24:19-24, and the chapter is closed with assuring the prophet, that the day these things should come to pass, a messenger should be sent him, to whom he should open his mouth, and be no more dumb, Eze 24:25-27.
