1 Corinthians 14:26-40

NLT 26 Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you. NIV 26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. NLT 27 No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say. NIV 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. NLT 28 But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately. NIV 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God. NLT 29 Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said. NIV 29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. NLT 30 But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop. NIV 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. NLT 31 In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged. NIV 31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. NLT 32 Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns. NIV 32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. NLT 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people. NIV 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. NLT 34 Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. NIV 34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. NLT 35 If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings. NIV 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. NLT 36 Or do you think God’s word originated with you Corinthians? Are you the only ones to whom it was given? NIV 36 Or did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? NLT 37 If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself. NIV 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet or otherwise gifted by the Spirit, let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command. NLT 38 But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized. NIV 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored. NLT 39 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues. NIV 39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. NLT 40 But be sure that everything is done properly and in order. NIV 40 But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.
