CEB 1 All the Israelite tribes came to David at Hebron and said, "Listen: We are your very own flesh and bone. NRS 1 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, "Look, we are your bone and flesh. CEB 2 In the past, when Saul ruled over us, you were the one who led Israel out to war and back. What's more, the LORD told you, You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be Israel's leader. NRS 2 For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel." CEB 3 So all the Israelite elders came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel. NRS 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. CEB 4 David was 30 years old when he became king, and he ruled for forty years. NRS 4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. CEB 5 He ruled over Judah for seven and a half years in Hebron. He ruled thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah in Jerusalem. NRS 5 At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

CEB 9 David occupied the fortress, so it was renamed David's City. David built a city around it from the earthen terraces inward. NRS 9 David occupied the stronghold, and named it the city of David. David built the city all around from the Millo inward. CEB 10 David grew increasingly powerful, and the LORD of heavenly forces was with him. NRS 10 And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.
