John 10

VUL 1 amen amen dico vobis qui non intrat per ostium in ovile ovium sed ascendit aliunde ille fur est et latro NIV 1 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. VUL 2 qui autem intrat per ostium pastor est ovium NIV 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. VUL 3 huic ostiarius aperit et oves vocem eius audiunt et proprias oves vocat nominatim et educit eas NIV 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. VUL 4 et cum proprias oves emiserit ante eas vadit et oves illum sequuntur quia sciunt vocem eius NIV 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. VUL 5 alienum autem non sequuntur sed fugient ab eo quia non noverunt vocem alienorum NIV 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” VUL 6 hoc proverbium dixit eis Iesus illi autem non cognoverunt quid loqueretur eis NIV 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. VUL 7 dixit ergo eis iterum Iesus amen amen dico vobis quia ego sum ostium ovium NIV 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. VUL 8 omnes quotquot venerunt fures sunt et latrones sed non audierunt eos oves NIV 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. VUL 9 ego sum ostium per me si quis introierit salvabitur et ingredietur et egredietur et pascua inveniet NIV 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. VUL 10 fur non venit nisi ut furetur et mactet et perdat ego veni ut vitam habeant et abundantius habeant NIV 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. VUL 11 ego sum pastor bonus bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus NIV 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. VUL 12 mercennarius et qui non est pastor cuius non sunt oves propriae videt lupum venientem et dimittit oves et fugit et lupus rapit et dispergit oves NIV 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. VUL 13 mercennarius autem fugit quia mercennarius est et non pertinet ad eum de ovibus NIV 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. VUL 14 ego sum pastor bonus et cognosco meas et cognoscunt me meae NIV 14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— VUL 15 sicut novit me Pater et ego agnosco Patrem et animam meam pono pro ovibus NIV 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. VUL 16 et alias oves habeo quae non sunt ex hoc ovili et illas oportet me adducere et vocem meam audient et fiet unum ovile unus pastor NIV 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. VUL 17 propterea me Pater diligit quia ego pono animam meam ut iterum sumam eam NIV 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. VUL 18 nemo tollit eam a me sed ego pono eam a me ipso potestatem habeo ponendi eam et potestatem habeo iterum sumendi eam hoc mandatum accepi a Patre meo NIV 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” VUL 19 dissensio iterum facta est inter Iudaeos propter sermones hos NIV 19 The Jews who heard these words were again divided. VUL 20 dicebant autem multi ex ipsis daemonium habet et insanit quid eum auditis NIV 20 Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?” VUL 21 alii dicebant haec verba non sunt daemonium habentis numquid daemonium potest caecorum oculos aperire NIV 21 But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” VUL 22 facta sunt autem encenia in Hierosolymis et hiemps erat NIV 22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, VUL 23 et ambulabat Iesus in templo in porticu Salomonis NIV 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. VUL 24 circumdederunt ergo eum Iudaei et dicebant ei quousque animam nostram tollis si tu es Christus dic nobis palam NIV 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” VUL 25 respondit eis Iesus loquor vobis et non creditis opera quae ego facio in nomine Patris mei haec testimonium perhibent de me NIV 25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, VUL 26 sed vos non creditis quia non estis ex ovibus meis NIV 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. VUL 27 oves meae vocem meam audiunt et ego cognosco eas et sequuntur me NIV 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. VUL 28 et ego vitam aeternam do eis et non peribunt in aeternum et non rapiet eas quisquam de manu mea NIV 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. VUL 29 Pater meus quod dedit mihi maius omnibus est et nemo potest rapere de manu Patris mei NIV 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. VUL 30 ego et Pater unum sumus NIV 30 I and the Father are one.” VUL 31 sustulerunt lapides Iudaei ut lapidarent eum NIV 31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, VUL 32 respondit eis Iesus multa opera bona ostendi vobis ex Patre meo propter quod eorum opus me lapidatis NIV 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” VUL 33 responderunt ei Iudaei de bono opere non lapidamus te sed de blasphemia et quia tu homo cum sis facis te ipsum Deum NIV 33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.” VUL 34 respondit eis Iesus nonne scriptum est in lege vestra quia ego dixi dii estis NIV 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods” ’? VUL 35 si illos dixit deos ad quos sermo Dei factus est et non potest solvi scriptura NIV 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— VUL 36 quem Pater sanctificavit et misit in mundum vos dicitis quia blasphemas quia dixi Filius Dei sum NIV 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? VUL 37 si non facio opera Patris mei nolite credere mihi NIV 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. VUL 38 si autem facio et si mihi non vultis credere operibus credite ut cognoscatis et credatis quia in me est Pater et ego in Patre NIV 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” VUL 39 quaerebant ergo eum prendere et exivit de manibus eorum NIV 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. VUL 40 et abiit iterum trans Iordanen in eum locum ubi erat Iohannes baptizans primum et mansit illic NIV 40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, VUL 41 et multi venerunt ad eum et dicebant quia Iohannes quidem signum fecit nullum NIV 41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.” VUL 42 omnia autem quaecumque dixit Iohannes de hoc vera erant et multi crediderunt in eum NIV 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.
