SBLGNT 1 Παῦλος δέσμιος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ καὶ Τιμόθεος ὁ ἀδελφὸς Φιλήμονι τῷ ἀγαπητῷ καὶ συνεργῷ ἡμῶν NIV 1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker— SBLGNT 2 καὶ Ἀπφίᾳ τῇ ἀδελφῇ καὶ Ἀρχίππῳ τῷ συστρατιώτῃ ἡμῶν καὶ τῇ κατ’ οἶκόν σου ἐκκλησίᾳ · NIV 2 also to Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier—and to the church that meets in your home: SBLGNT 3 χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. NIV 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. SBLGNT 4 Εὐχαριστῶ τῷ θεῷ μου πάντοτε μνείαν σου ποιούμενος ἐπὶ τῶν προσευχῶν μου, NIV 4 I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, SBLGNT 5 ἀκούων σου τὴν ἀγάπην καὶ τὴν πίστιν ἣν ἔχεις πρὸς τὸν κύριον Ἰησοῦν καὶ εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἁγίους, NIV 5 because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus. SBLGNT 6 ὅπως ἡ κοινωνία τῆς πίστεώς σου ἐνεργὴς γένηται ἐν ἐπιγνώσει παντὸς ἀγαθοῦ τοῦ ἐν ἡμῖν εἰς Χριστόν · NIV 6 I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. SBLGNT 7 χαρὰν γὰρ πολλὴν ἔσχον ⸃ καὶ παράκλησιν ἐπὶ τῇ ἀγάπῃ σου, ὅτι τὰ σπλάγχνα τῶν ἁγίων ἀναπέπαυται διὰ σοῦ, ἀδελφέ. NIV 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people. SBLGNT 8 Διό, πολλὴν ἐν Χριστῷ παρρησίαν ἔχων ἐπιτάσσειν σοι τὸ ἀνῆκον, NIV 8 Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, SBLGNT 9 διὰ τὴν ἀγάπην μᾶλλον παρακαλῶ, τοιοῦτος ὢν ὡς Παῦλος πρεσβύτης νυνὶ δὲ καὶ δέσμιος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ ⸃— NIV 9 yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul—an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus— SBLGNT 10 παρακαλῶ σε περὶ τοῦ ἐμοῦ τέκνου, ὃν ἐγέννησα ἐν τοῖς δεσμοῖς Ὀνήσιμον, NIV 10 that I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. SBLGNT 11 τόν ποτέ σοι ἄχρηστον νυνὶ δὲ σοὶ καὶ ἐμοὶ εὔχρηστον, NIV 11 Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me. SBLGNT 12 ὃν ἀνέπεμψά σοι αὐτόν, τοῦτ’ ἔστιν τὰ ἐμὰ σπλάγχνα ⸃· NIV 12 I am sending him—who is my very heart—back to you. SBLGNT 13 ὃν ἐγὼ ἐβουλόμην πρὸς ἐμαυτὸν κατέχειν, ἵνα ὑπὲρ σοῦ μοι διακονῇ ⸃ ἐν τοῖς δεσμοῖς τοῦ εὐαγγελίου, NIV 13 I would have liked to keep him with me so that he could take your place in helping me while I am in chains for the gospel. SBLGNT 14 χωρὶς δὲ τῆς σῆς γνώμης οὐδὲν ἠθέλησα ποιῆσαι, ἵνα μὴ ὡς κατὰ ἀνάγκην τὸ ἀγαθόν σου ᾖ ἀλλὰ κατὰ ἑκούσιον · NIV 14 But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do would not seem forced but would be voluntary. SBLGNT 15 τάχα γὰρ διὰ τοῦτο ἐχωρίσθη πρὸς ὥραν ἵνα αἰώνιον αὐτὸν ἀπέχῃς, NIV 15 Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back forever— SBLGNT 16 οὐκέτι ὡς δοῦλον ἀλλὰ ὑπὲρ δοῦλον, ἀδελφὸν ἀγαπητόν, μάλιστα ἐμοί, πόσῳ δὲ μᾶλλον σοὶ καὶ ἐν σαρκὶ καὶ ἐν κυρίῳ. NIV 16 no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a fellow man and as a brother in the Lord. SBLGNT 17 Εἰ οὖν με ἔχεις κοινωνόν, προσλαβοῦ αὐτὸν ὡς ἐμέ. NIV 17 So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. SBLGNT 18 εἰ δέ τι ἠδίκησέν σε ἢ ὀφείλει, τοῦτο ἐμοὶ ἐλλόγα · NIV 18 If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me. SBLGNT 19 ἐγὼ Παῦλος ἔγραψα τῇ ἐμῇ χειρί, ἐγὼ ἀποτίσω · ἵνα μὴ λέγω σοι ὅτι καὶ σεαυτόν μοι προσοφείλεις. NIV 19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back—not to mention that you owe me your very self. SBLGNT 20 ναί, ἀδελφέ, ἐγώ σου ὀναίμην ἐν κυρίῳ · ἀνάπαυσόν μου τὰ σπλάγχνα ἐν Χριστῷ. NIV 20 I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. SBLGNT 21 πεποιθὼς τῇ ὑπακοῇ σου ἔγραψά σοι, εἰδὼς ὅτι καὶ ὑπὲρ ἃ λέγω ποιήσεις. NIV 21 Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. SBLGNT 22 ἅμα δὲ καὶ ἑτοίμαζέ μοι ξενίαν, ἐλπίζω γὰρ ὅτι διὰ τῶν προσευχῶν ὑμῶν χαρισθήσομαι ὑμῖν. NIV 22 And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. SBLGNT 23 Ἀσπάζεταί σε Ἐπαφρᾶς ὁ συναιχμάλωτός μου ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, NIV 23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. SBLGNT 24 Μᾶρκος, Ἀρίσταρχος, Δημᾶς, Λουκᾶς, οἱ συνεργοί μου. NIV 24 And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers. SBLGNT 25 Ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ μετὰ τοῦ πνεύματος ὑμῶν. NIV 25 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
