Proverbs 12

NAS 1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof is stupid. NIV 1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. NAS 2 A good man will obtain favor from the LORD , But He will condemn a man who devises evil. NIV 2 Good people obtain favor from the LORD, but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes. NAS 3 A man will not be established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous will not be moved. NIV 3 No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. NAS 4 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones. NIV 4 A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. NAS 5 The thoughts of the righteous are just, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. NIV 5 The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. NAS 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, But the mouth of the upright will deliver them. NIV 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them. NAS 7 The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand. NIV 7 The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm. NAS 8 A man will be praised according to his insight, But one of perverse mind will be despised. NIV 8 A person is praised according to their prudence, and one with a warped mind is despised. NAS 9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant Than he who honors himself and lacks bread. NIV 9 Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food. NAS 10 A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel. NIV 10 The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. NAS 11 He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense. NIV 11 Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense. NAS 12 The wicked man desires the booty of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit. NIV 12 The wicked desire the stronghold of evildoers, but the root of the righteous endures. NAS 13 An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble. NIV 13 Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk, and so the innocent escape trouble. NAS 14 A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his words, And the deeds of a man's hands will return to him. NIV 14 From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things, and the work of their hands brings them reward. NAS 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel. NIV 15 The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. NAS 16 A fool's anger is known at once, But a prudent man conceals dishonor. NIV 16 Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult. NAS 17 He who speaks truth tells what is right, But a false witness, deceit. NIV 17 An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies. NAS 18 There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing. NIV 18 The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. NAS 19 Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is only for a moment. NIV 19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. NAS 20 Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy. NIV 20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. NAS 21 No harm befalls the righteous, But the wicked are filled with trouble. NIV 21 No harm overtakes the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble. NAS 22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD , But those who deal faithfully are His delight. NIV 22 The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. NAS 23 A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims folly. NIV 23 The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves, but a fool’s heart blurts out folly. NAS 24 The hand of the diligent will rule, But the slack hand will be put to forced labor. NIV 24 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor. NAS 25 Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad. NIV 25 Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up. NAS 26 The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, But the way of the wicked leads them astray. NIV 26 The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. NAS 27 A lazy man does not roast his prey, But the precious possession of a man is diligence. NIV 27 The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt. NAS 28 In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death. NIV 28 In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.
