1 Precauciones al acercarse a Dios<br />Cuando entres en la casa de Dios, abre los oídos y cierra la boca. El que presenta ofrendas a Dios sin pensar hace mal.

2 No hagas promesas a la ligera y no te apresures a presentar tus asuntos delante de Dios. Después de todo, Dios está en el cielo, y tú estás aquí en la tierra. Por lo tanto, que sean pocas tus palabras.

3 Demasiada actividad trae pesadillas; demasiadas palabras te hacen necio.

4 Cuando le hagas una promesa a Dios, no tardes en cumplirla, porque a Dios no le agradan los necios. Cumple todas las promesas que le hagas.

5 Es mejor no decir nada que hacer promesas y no cumplirlas.

6 No dejes que tu boca te haga pecar, y no te defiendas ante el mensajero del templo al decir que la promesa que hiciste fue un error. Esa actitud enojaría a Dios y quizá destruya todo lo que has logrado.

7 Hablar no cuesta nada, es como soñar despierto y tantas otras actividades inútiles. Tú, en cambio, teme a Dios.

8 La inutilidad de las riquezas<br />No te sorprendas si ves que un poderoso oprime a un pobre o que no se hace justicia en toda la tierra. Pues todo funcionario está bajo las órdenes de otro superior a él, y la justicia se pierde entre trámites y burocracia.

9 ¡Hasta el rey saca todo lo que puede de la tierra para su propio beneficio!

10 Los que aman el dinero nunca tendrán suficiente. ¡Qué absurdo es pensar que las riquezas traen verdadera felicidad!

11 Cuanto más tengas, más se te acercará la gente para ayudarte a gastarlo. Por lo tanto, ¿de qué sirven las riquezas? ¡Quizás solo para ver cómo se escapan de las manos!

12 La gente trabajadora siempre duerme bien, coma mucho o coma poco; pero los ricos rara vez tienen una buena noche de descanso.

13 He notado otro gran problema bajo el sol: acaparar riquezas perjudica al que ahorra.

14 Se invierte dinero en negocios arriesgados que fracasan, y entonces todo se pierde. A fin de cuentas, no queda nada para dejarles a los hijos.

15 Todos llegamos al final de nuestra vida tal como estábamos el día que nacimos: desnudos y con las manos vacías. No podemos llevarnos las riquezas al morir.

16 Esto es otro problema muy serio: las personas no se van de este mundo mejor de lo que llegaron. Todo su esfuerzo es en vano, como si trabajaran para el viento.

17 Viven toda su vida bajo una carga pesada: con enojo, frustración y desánimo.

18 Aun así, he notado al menos una cosa positiva. Es bueno que la gente coma, beba y disfrute del trabajo que hace bajo el sol durante el corto tiempo de vida que Dios le concedió, y que acepte su destino.

19 También es algo bueno recibir riquezas de parte de Dios y la buena salud para disfrutarlas. Disfrutar del trabajo y aceptar lo que depara la vida son verdaderos regalos de Dios.

20 A esas personas Dios las mantiene tan ocupadas en disfrutar de la vida que no pasan tiempo rumiando el pasado.

1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.

2 Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

3 A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool.

4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.

5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.

6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands?

7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God.

8 If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things; for one official is eyed by a higher one, and over them both are others higher still.

9 The increase from the land is taken by all; the king himself profits from the fields.

10 Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.

11 As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

12 The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether they eat little or much, but as for the rich, their abundance permits them no sleep.

13 I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners,

14 or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when they have children there is nothing left for them to inherit.

15 Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands.

16 This too is a grievous evil: As everyone comes, so they depart, and what do they gain, since they toil for the wind?

17 All their days they eat in darkness, with great frustration, affliction and anger.

18 This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.

19 Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God.

20 They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.
