1 La resurrección<br />El domingo, muy temprano por la mañana,<br /> las mujeres fueron a la tumba, llevando las especias que habían preparado.

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
2 Encontraron que la piedra de la entrada estaba corrida a un costado.

They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
3 Entonces entraron, pero no encontraron el cuerpo del Señor Jesús.

but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 Mientras estaban allí perplejas, de pronto aparecieron dos hombres vestidos con vestiduras resplandecientes.

While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
5 Las mujeres quedaron aterradas y se inclinaron rostro en tierra. Entonces los hombres preguntaron: «¿Por qué buscan entre los muertos a alguien que está vivo?

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
6 ¡Él no está aquí! ¡Ha resucitado! Recuerden lo que les dijo en Galilea,

He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
7 que el Hijo del Hombre<br /> debía ser traicionado y entregado en manos de hombres pecadores, y ser crucificado, y que resucitaría al tercer día».

‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
8 Entonces ellas recordaron lo que Jesús había dicho.

Then they remembered his words.
9 Así que regresaron corriendo de la tumba a contarles a los once discípulos y a todos los demás lo que había sucedido.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.
10 Fueron María Magdalena, Juana, María la madre de Santiago y varias mujeres más quienes contaron a los apóstoles lo que pasó.

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.
11 Pero a los hombres el relato les pareció una tontería, y no les creyeron.

But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.
12 Sin embargo, Pedro se levantó de un salto y corrió a la tumba para ver por sí mismo. Agachándose, miró hacia adentro y vio solo los lienzos de lino, vacíos; luego regresó a la casa, preguntándose qué habría ocurrido.

Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
13 De camino a Emaús<br />Ese mismo día, dos de los seguidores de Jesús iban camino al pueblo de Emaús, a unos once kilómetros<br /> de Jerusalén.

Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.
14 Al ir caminando, hablaban acerca de las cosas que habían sucedido.

They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
15 Mientras conversaban y hablaban, de pronto Jesús mismo se apareció y comenzó a caminar con ellos;

As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;
16 pero Dios impidió que lo reconocieran.

but they were kept from recognizing him.
17 Él les preguntó:<br />Se detuvieron de golpe, con sus rostros cargados de tristeza.

He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”They stood still, their faces downcast.
18 Entonces uno de ellos, llamado Cleofas, contestó:<br />—Tú debes de ser la única persona en Jerusalén que no oyó acerca de las cosas que han sucedido allí en los últimos días.

One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 —preguntó Jesús.<br />—Las cosas que le sucedieron a Jesús, el hombre de Nazaret —le dijeron—. Era un profeta que hizo milagros poderosos, y también era un gran maestro a los ojos de Dios y de todo el pueblo.

“What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.
20 Sin embargo, los principales sacerdotes y otros líderes religiosos lo entregaron para que fuera condenado a muerte, y lo crucificaron.

The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;
21 Nosotros teníamos la esperanza de que fuera el Mesías que había venido para rescatar a Israel. Todo esto sucedió hace tres días.

but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.
22 »No obstante, algunas mujeres de nuestro grupo de seguidores fueron a su tumba esta mañana temprano y regresaron con noticias increíbles.

In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning
23 Dijeron que el cuerpo había desaparecido y que habían visto a ángeles, quienes les dijeron ¡que Jesús está vivo!

but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.
24 Algunos de nuestros hombres corrieron para averiguarlo, y efectivamente el cuerpo no estaba, tal como las mujeres habían dicho.

Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
25 Entonces Jesús les dijo:

He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26 ¿Acaso no profetizaron claramente que el Mesías tendría que sufrir todas esas cosas antes de entrar en su gloria?

Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”
27 Entonces Jesús los guió por los escritos de Moisés y de todos los profetas, explicándoles lo que las Escrituras decían acerca de él mismo.

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28 Para entonces ya estaban cerca de Emaús y del final del viaje. Jesús hizo como que iba a seguir adelante,

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther.
29 pero ellos le suplicaron: «Quédate con nosotros esta noche, ya que se está haciendo tarde». Entonces los acompañó a la casa.

But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 Al sentarse a comer,<br /> tomó el pan y lo bendijo. Luego lo partió y se lo dio a ellos.

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.
31 De pronto, se les abrieron los ojos y lo reconocieron. Y, en ese instante, Jesús desapareció.

Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.
32 Entonces se dijeron el uno al otro: «¿No ardía nuestro corazón cuando nos hablaba en el camino y nos explicaba las Escrituras?».

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 En menos de una hora, estaban de regreso a Jerusalén. Allí encontraron a los once discípulos y a los otros que se habían reunido con ellos,

They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together
34 quienes decían: «¡El Señor ha resucitado de verdad! Se le apareció a Pedro<br />».

and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”
35 Jesús se aparece a los discípulos<br />Luego los dos de Emaús les contaron cómo Jesús se les había aparecido mientras iban por el camino y cómo lo habían reconocido cuando partió el pan.

Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
36 Entonces, justo mientras contaban la historia, de pronto Jesús mismo apareció de pie en medio de ellos.<br />les dijo.

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
37 Pero todos quedaron asustados y temerosos; ¡pensaban que veían un fantasma!

They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
38 —les preguntó—.

He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?
39 Miren mis manos. Miren mis pies. Pueden ver que de veras soy yo. Tóquenme y asegúrense de que no soy un fantasma, pues los fantasmas no tienen cuerpo, como ven que yo tengo».

Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40 Mientras hablaba, él les mostró sus manos y sus pies.

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41 Aun así, ellos seguían sin creer, llenos de alegría y asombro. Entonces les preguntó:

And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42 Le dieron un pedazo de pescado asado,

They gave him a piece of broiled fish,
43 y él lo comió mientras ellos miraban.

and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44 Entonces dijo:

He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45 Entonces les abrió la mente para que entendieran las Escrituras,

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
46 y dijo:

He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
47 También se escribió que este mensaje se proclamaría con la autoridad de su nombre a todas las naciones,<br /> comenzando con Jerusalén: “Hay perdón de pecados para todos los que se arrepientan”.

and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

You are witnesses of these things.
49 »Ahora enviaré al Espíritu Santo, tal como prometió mi Padre; pero quédense aquí en la ciudad hasta que el Espíritu Santo venga y los llene con poder del cielo».

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
50 La ascensión<br />Entonces Jesús los llevó a Betania, levantó sus manos al cielo y los bendijo.

When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51 Mientras los bendecía, los dejó y fue levantado al cielo.

While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
52 Entonces ellos lo adoraron y regresaron a Jerusalén llenos de gran alegría;

Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
53 y pasaban todo su tiempo en el templo, adorando a Dios.

And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
