Mark 8:23-33

NRSA 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; and when he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, "Can you see anything?" NIV 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” NRSA 24 And the man looked up and said, "I can see people, but they look like trees, walking." NIV 24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” NRSA 25 Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he looked intently and his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. NIV 25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. NRSA 26 Then he sent him away to his home, saying, "Do not even go into the village." NIV 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.” NRSA 27 Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" NIV 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” NRSA 28 And they answered him, "John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets." NIV 28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” NRSA 29 He asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Messiah." NIV 29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” NRSA 30 And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him. NIV 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. NRSA 31 Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. NIV 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. NRSA 32 He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. NIV 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. NRSA 33 But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things." NIV 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
