Psalm 18

GNTA 1 How I love you, Lord! You are my defender. NIV 1 I love you, LORD, my strength. GNTA 2 The Lord is my protector; he is my strong fortress. My God is my protection, and with him I am safe. He protects me like a shield; he defends me and keeps me safe. NIV 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. GNTA 3 I call to the Lord, and he saves me from my enemies. Praise the Lord! NIV 3 I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. GNTA 4 The danger of death was all around me; the waves of destruction rolled over me. NIV 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. GNTA 5 The danger of death was around me, and the grave set its trap for me. NIV 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. GNTA 6 In my trouble I called to the Lord; I called to my God for help. In his temple he heard my voice; he listened to my cry for help. NIV 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. GNTA 7 Then the earth trembled and shook; the foundations of the mountains rocked and quivered, because God was angry. NIV 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. GNTA 8 Smoke poured out of his nostrils, a consuming flame and burning coals from his mouth. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. GNTA 9 He tore the sky open and came down with a dark cloud under his feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. GNTA 10 He flew swiftly on his winged creature; he traveled on the wings of the wind. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. GNTA 11 He covered himself with darkness; thick clouds, full of water, surrounded him. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him— the dark rain clouds of the sky. GNTA 12 Hailstones and flashes of fire came from the lightning before him and broke through the dark clouds. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. GNTA 13 Then the Lord thundered from the sky; and the voice of the Most High was heard. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. GNTA 14 He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies; with flashes of lightning he sent them running. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them. GNTA 15 The floor of the ocean was laid bare, and the foundations of the earth were uncovered, when you rebuked your enemies, Lord, and roared at them in anger. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. GNTA 16 The Lord reached down from above and took hold of me; he pulled me out of the deep waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. GNTA 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemies and from all those who hate me - they were too strong for me. NIV 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. GNTA 18 When I was in trouble, they attacked me, but the Lord protected me. NIV 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. GNTA 19 He helped me out of danger; he saved me because he was pleased with me. NIV 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. GNTA 20 The Lord rewards me because I do what is right; he blesses me because I am innocent. NIV 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. GNTA 21 I have obeyed the law of the Lord; I have not turned away from my God. NIV 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I am not guilty of turning from my God. GNTA 22 I have observed all his laws; I have not disobeyed his commands. NIV 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. GNTA 23 He knows that I am faultless, that I have kept myself from doing wrong. NIV 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. GNTA 24 And so he rewards me because I do what is right, because he knows that I am innocent. NIV 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. GNTA 25 O Lord, you are faithful to those who are faithful to you; completely good to those who are perfect. NIV 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, GNTA 26 You are pure to those who are pure, but hostile to those who are wicked. NIV 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd. GNTA 27 You save those who are humble, but you humble those who are proud. NIV 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. GNTA 28 O Lord, you give me light; you dispel my darkness. NIV 28 You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. GNTA 29 You give me strength to attack my enemies and power to overcome their defenses. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop ; with my God I can scale a wall. GNTA 30 This God - how perfect are his deeds! How dependable his words! He is like a shield for all who seek his protection. NIV 30 As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. GNTA 31 The Lord alone is God; God alone is our defense. NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? GNTA 32 He is the God who makes me strong, who makes my pathway safe. NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. GNTA 33 He makes me sure-footed as a deer; he keeps me safe on the mountains. NIV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. GNTA 34 He trains me for battle, so that I can use the strongest bow. NIV 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. GNTA 35 O Lord, you protect me and save me; your care has made me great, and your power has kept me safe. NIV 35 You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. GNTA 36 You have kept me from being captured, and I have never fallen. NIV 36 You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way. GNTA 37 I pursue my enemies and catch them; I do not stop until I destroy them. NIV 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. GNTA 38 I strike them down, and they cannot rise; they lie defeated before me. NIV 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. GNTA 39 You give me strength for the battle and victory over my enemies. NIV 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me. GNTA 40 You make my enemies run from me; I destroy those who hate me. NIV 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. GNTA 41 They cry for help, but no one saves them; they call to the Lord, but he does not answer. NIV 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the LORD, but he did not answer. GNTA 42 I crush them, so that they become like dust which the wind blows away. I trample on them like mud in the streets. NIV 42 I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets. GNTA 43 You saved me from a rebellious people and made me ruler over the nations; people I did not know have now become my subjects. NIV 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me, GNTA 44 Foreigners bow before me; when they hear me, they obey. NIV 44 foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me. GNTA 45 They lose their courage and come trembling from their fortresses. NIV 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. GNTA 46 The Lord lives! Praise my defender! Proclaim the greatness of the God who saves me. NIV 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! GNTA 47 He gives me victory over my enemies; he subdues the nations under me NIV 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, GNTA 48 and saves me from my foes. O Lord, you give me victory over my enemies and protect me from violent people. NIV 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me. GNTA 49 And so I praise you among the nations; I sing praises to you. NIV 49 Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name. GNTA 50 God gives great victories to his king; he shows constant love to the one he has chosen, to David and his descendants forever. NIV 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.
