1 Chronicles 6:11-21

11 and `Azaryah became the father of Amaryah, and Amaryah became the father of Achituv,
12 and Achituv became the father of Tzadok, and Tzadok became the father of Shallum,
13 and Shallum became the father of Hilkiyah, and Hilkiyah became the father of `Azaryah,
14 and `Azaryah became the father of Serayah, and Serayah became the father of Yehotzadak;
15 Yehotzadak went [into captivity], when the LORD carried away Yehudah and Yerushalayim by the hand of Nevukhadnetztzar.
16 The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kehat, and Merari.
17 These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Livni and Shim`i.
18 The sons of Kehat were `Amram, and Yitzhar, and Hevron, and `Uzzi'el.
19 The sons of Merari: Machli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers' [houses].
20 Of Gershom: Livni his son, Yachat his son, Zimmah his son,
21 Yo'ach his son, `Iddo his son, Zerach his son, Ye'aterai his son.

INTRODUCTION TO 1 CHRONICLES 6

This chapter begins with the fathers and heads of the tribe of Levi, 1Ch 6:1-3, and reckons up the high priests in the line of Eleazar, to the Babylonish captivity, 1Ch 6:4-15 gives an account of the families of the sons of Levi, 1Ch 6:16-30 and of those Levites that were employed as singers, and in other ministrations in the sanctuary in the times of David and Solomon, 1Ch 6:31-49, then follows a repetition of the sons of Aaron in the line of Eleazar, to the said times, 1Ch 6:50-53, and a recital of the dwelling places of the Levites in the several tribes, 1Ch 6:54-81.
