18 The sons of Kehat were `Amram, and Yitzhar, and Hevron, and `Uzzi'el.
19 The sons of Merari: Machli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers' [houses].
20 Of Gershom: Livni his son, Yachat his son, Zimmah his son,
21 Yo'ach his son, `Iddo his son, Zerach his son, Ye'aterai his son.
22 The sons of Kehat: `Amminadav his son, Korach his son, Assir his son,
23 Elkana his son, and Avi'asaf his son, and Assir his son,
24 Tachat his son, Uri'el his son, `Uzziyah his son, and Sha'ul his son.
25 The sons of Elkana: `Amasai, and Achimot.
26 As for Elkana, the sons of Elkana: Tzafai his son, and Nachat his son,
27 Eli'av his son, Yerocham his son, Elkana his son.
28 The sons of Shemu'el: the firstborn [Yo'el], and the second Aviyah.

INTRODUCTION TO 1 CHRONICLES 6

This chapter begins with the fathers and heads of the tribe of Levi, 1Ch 6:1-3, and reckons up the high priests in the line of Eleazar, to the Babylonish captivity, 1Ch 6:4-15 gives an account of the families of the sons of Levi, 1Ch 6:16-30 and of those Levites that were employed as singers, and in other ministrations in the sanctuary in the times of David and Solomon, 1Ch 6:31-49, then follows a repetition of the sons of Aaron in the line of Eleazar, to the said times, 1Ch 6:50-53, and a recital of the dwelling places of the Levites in the several tribes, 1Ch 6:54-81.
