2 Samuel 2:22-32

22 Y Abner volvió a decir a Asael: Apártate de en pos de mí, porque te heriré derribándote en tierra, y después ¿cómo levantaré mi rostro a tu hermano Joab?

23 Y no queriendo él irse, lo hirió Abner con el regatón de la lanza por la quinta costilla , y le salió la lanza por las espaldas, y cayó allí, y murió en aquel mismo sitio. Y todos los que venían por aquel lugar donde Asael había caído y estaba muerto, se paraban.

24 Mas Joab y Abisai siguieron a Abner; y se les puso el sol cuando llegaron al collado de Amma, que está delante de Gía, junto al camino del desierto de Gabaón.

25 Y se juntaron los hijos de Benjamín en un escuadrón con Abner, y se pararon en la cumbre del collado.

26 Y Abner dio voces a Joab, diciendo: ¿Consumirá el cuchillo perpetuamente? ¿No sabes tú que al cabo sigue amargura? ¿Hasta cuándo no has de decir al pueblo que se vuelvan de seguir a sus hermanos?

27 Y Joab respondió: Vive Dios que si no hubieras hablado, ya desde esta mañana el pueblo hubiera dejado de seguir a sus hermanos.

28 Entonces Joab tocó el cuerno, y todo el pueblo se detuvo, y no siguió más a los de Israel, ni peleó más.

29 Y Abner y los suyos caminaron por la campiña toda aquella noche, y pasando el Jordán cruzaron por todo Bet-horón, y llegaron al real.

30 Joab también volvió de seguir a Abner, y juntando todo el pueblo, faltaron de los siervos de David diecinueve hombres, y Asael.

31 Mas los siervos de David hirieron de los de Benjamín y de los de Abner, trescientos sesenta hombres, que murieron. Tomaron luego a Asael, y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro de su padre en Belén.

32 Y caminaron toda aquella noche Joab y los suyos, y les amaneció en Hebrón.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 2

This chapter relates that David, upon inquiring of the Lord, was directed to go up to Hebron, and did, where he was anointed king of Judah, 2Sa 2:1-4. And that being told of the kindness of the men of Jabeshgilead in burying Saul, he sent them thanks, and promised to remember it, and took the opportunity to let them know he was anointed king over Judah, 2Sa 2:5-7. It also relates that Abner set up Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, to be king over Israel, 2Sa 2:8-11; and that there was an encounter between twelve of Abner's men and twelve of David's, which brought on a sore battle between them, in which Abner was beaten, 2Sa 2:12-17; and Asahel, who was of David's party, was slain in the pursuit by Abner, 2Sa 2:18-25; when a retreat was sounded by Joab, at the influence of Abner, who, with his wen, betook themselves to Mahanaim, where he had left Ishbosheth, 2Sa 2:26-29. And the chapter closes with an account of the slain on both sides, the burial of Asahel, and the return of Joab with David's men to Hebron, 2Sa 2:30-32.
