Andreturnedfrom the sepulchre, and toldall these things unto the eleven,and to all the rest.

ItwasMaryMagdalene,andJoanna,andMary the mother of James,andother women that were withthem,whichtold these thingsunto the apostles.

Andtheirwordsseemedtothemas idle tales,and they believedthemnot.

ThenarosePeter, and ranunto the sepulchre;and stooping down, he beheld the linen clotheslaid by themselves,anddeparted, wonderinginhimself at that which was come to pass.

And,behold, twoofthemwent*thatsamedayto a villagecalled*Emmaus, which wasfromJerusalem about threescorefurlongs.

Andtheytalkedtogether*ofall these things which had happened.

And it came to pass, that, whiletheycommuned together andreasoned, Jesushimselfdrewnear, and went withthem.

Buttheireyes were holden that they shouldnotknowhim.

And he saiduntothem,What manner of communications are thesethat ye have one toanother, as ye walk, andaresad?

And the one of them,whosename was Cleopas,answeringsaiduntohim, Art thouonly a strangerinJerusalem,andhastnotknown the things which are come to passthere*inthesedays?

And he said unto them,What things?And they said unto him,ConcerningJesus of Nazareth,whichwas a prophetmightyin*deedandwordbeforeGodandall the people:

And howthe chief priestsandourrulersdeliveredhimto be condemned to death,and have crucifiedhim.

Butwetrustedthat it had beenhe which should have redeemedIsrael:andbeside*allthis, to dayisthethirddaysincethesethings were done.

Yea, and certainwomenalsoof our companymadeusastonished, which wereearlyat the sepulchre;

And when they foundnothisbody, they came, saying, that they hadalsoseen a vision of angels,whichsaid that he was alive.

And certain of them which were withuswentto the sepulchre,andfound it evensoas the women had said: buthim they sawnot.

Thenhesaiduntothem,Ofools,andslow of heart to believe*allthat the prophets have spoken:

OughtnotChrist to have suffered these things,and to enterintohisglory?

AndbeginningatMosesand*all the prophets, he expounded unto theminall the scriptures the things concerninghimself.

And they drew nighunto the village,whither they went: andhe made as though he would have gonefurther.

But they constrainedhim,saying, Abidewithus:for it istowardevening,and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarrywiththem.

And it came to pass, ashe sat at meatwiththem, he tookbread, and blessed it, andbrake, and gave to them.

Andtheireyes were opened, and they knewhim;andhevanished[a]* out of their sight.

And they said one to another*, Didnotourheartburnwithinus,while he talked with usby the way,andwhile he opened to us the scriptures?

And they rose up the samehour, and returnedtoJerusalem,andfound the eleven gathered together, and them that were withthem,

Saying*, The Lord is risenindeed,and hath appeared to Simon.

Andtheytold what things were done in the way,andhow he was known of theminbreaking of bread.

And as theythusspake, Jesushimselfstoodin the midst of them,andsaith unto them,Peace be unto you.

But they were terrifiedandaffrighted*, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38
And he said unto them,Why are yetroubled? andwhy do thoughtsariseinyourhearts?
39
Beholdmyhandsandmyfeet,that it isImyself:handleme,andsee; for a spirithathnotfleshandbones,as ye seemehave.

And when he had thusspoken, he shewedthem his handsand his feet.
