For the message of the cross is foolishness1 to those who are perishing,2 but to us who are being saved3 it is the power of God.419
For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."a520
Where is the wise man?6 Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age?7 Has not God made foolish8 the wisdom of the world?
For since in the wisdom of God the world9 through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save10 those who believe.1122
Jews demand miraculous signs12 and Greeks look for wisdom,
but we preach Christ crucified:13 a stumbling block14 to Jews and foolishness15 to Gentiles,
but to those whom God has called,16 both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God17 and the wisdom of God.1825
For the foolishness19 of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness20 of God is stronger than man's strength.
