Dear friends,1 since God so loved us,2 we also ought to love one another.312
No one has ever seen God;4 but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.513
We know6 that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.714
And we have seen and testify8 that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.915
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,10 God lives in him and he in God.1116
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.12 Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.1317
In this way, love is made complete14 among us so that we will have confidence15 on the day of judgment,16 because in this world we are like him.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,17 because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us.1820
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother,19 he is a liar.20 For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen,21 cannot love God, whom he has not seen.2221
And he has given us this command:23 Whoever loves God must also love his brother.24
