He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."a113
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?214
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.3 "Do not fear what they fearb; do not be frightened."c415
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer5 to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope6 that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
keeping a clear conscience,7 so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.817
It is better, if it is God's will,9 to suffer for doing good10 than for doing evil.
For Christ died for sins11 once for all,12 the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.13 He was put to death in the body14 but made alive by the Spirit,1519
through whomd also he went and preached to the spirits in prison1620
who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently17 in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.18 In it only a few people, eight in all,19 were saved20 through water,
and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you21 also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledgee of a good conscience22 toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,23
