1 Peter 3:13-22 (New International Version)

13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?1 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.2 "Do not fear what they feara; do not be frightened."b3 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer4 to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope5 that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience,6 so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.7 17 It is better, if it is God's will,8 to suffer for doing good9 than for doing evil. 18 For Christ died for sins10 once for all,11 the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.12 He was put to death in the body13 but made alive by the Spirit,14 19 through whomc also he went and preached to the spirits in prison15 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently16 in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.17 In it only a few people, eight in all,18 were saved19 through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you20 also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledged of a good conscience21 toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,22 22 who has gone into heaven23 and is at God's right hand24--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.25
