Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another;1 be sympathetic, love as brothers,2 be compassionate and humble.39
Do not repay evil with evil4 or insult with insult,5 but with blessing,6 because to this7 you were called8 so that you may inherit a blessing.910
For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."a1013
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?1114
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.12 "Do not fear what they fearb; do not be frightened."c1315
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer14 to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope15 that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
keeping a clear conscience,16 so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.1717
It is better, if it is God's will,18 to suffer for doing good19 than for doing evil.
For Christ died for sins20 once for all,21 the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.22 He was put to death in the body23 but made alive by the Spirit,24
