Three days later, while all of them were still in pain,1 two of Jacob's sons, Simeon2 and Levi,3 Dinah's brothers, took their swords4 and attacked the unsuspecting city,5 killing every male.626
They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword7 and took Dinah8 from Shechem's house and left.
The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city9 wherea their sister had been defiled.1028
They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys11 and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.1229
They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children,13 taking as plunder14 everything in the houses.1530
Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble16 on me by making me a stench17 to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land.18 We are few in number,19 and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed."
But they replied, "Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?20"
