Isaiah 16:6-14 (New International Version)

6 We have heard of Moab's1 pride2-- her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and her insolence-- but her boasts are empty. 7 Therefore the Moabites wail,3 they wail together for Moab. Lament and grieve for the mena4 of Kir Hareseth.5 8 The fields of Heshbon6 wither,7 the vines of Sibmah8 also. The rulers of the nations have trampled down the choicest vines,9 which once reached Jazer10 and spread toward the desert. Their shoots spread out11 and went as far as the sea.12 9 So I weep,13 as Jazer weeps, for the vines of Sibmah. O Heshbon, O Elealeh,14 I drench you with tears!15 The shouts of joy16 over your ripened fruit and over your harvests17 have been stilled. 10 Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards;18 no one sings or shouts19 in the vineyards; no one treads20 out wine at the presses,21 for I have put an end to the shouting. 11 My heart laments for Moab22 like a harp,23 my inmost being24 for Kir Hareseth. 12 When Moab appears at her high place,25 she only wears herself out; when she goes to her shrine26 to pray, it is to no avail.27 13 This is the word the LORD has already spoken concerning Moab. 14 But now the LORD says: "Within three years,28 as a servant bound by contract29 would count them,30 Moab's splendor and all her many people will be despised,31 and her survivors will be very few and feeble."32
