Ah, sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt,1 a brood of evildoers,2 children given to corruption!3 They have forsaken4 the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One5 of Israel and turned their backs6 on him.
Why should you be beaten7 anymore? Why do you persist8 in rebellion?9 Your whole head is injured, your whole heart10 afflicted.116
From the sole of your foot to the top of your head12 there is no soundness13-- only wounds and welts14 and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged15 or soothed with oil.167
Your country is desolate,17 your cities burned with fire;18 your fields are being stripped by foreigners19 right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.208
The Daughter of Zion21 is left22 like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut23 in a field of melons, like a city under siege.
Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors,24 we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.25
