"Be silent1 before me, you islands!2 Let the nations renew their strength!3 Let them come forward4 and speak; let us meet together5 at the place of judgment.
"Who has stirred6 up one from the east,7 calling him in righteousness8 to his servicea ?9 He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust10 with his sword, to windblown chaff11 with his bow.123
He pursues them and moves on unscathed,13 by a path his feet have not traveled before.
Who has done this and carried it through, calling14 forth the generations from the beginning?15 I, the LORD--with the first of them and with the last16--I am he.17"
The islands18 have seen it and fear; the ends of the earth19 tremble. They approach and come forward;
each helps the other and says to his brother, "Be strong!20"
The craftsman21 encourages the goldsmith,22 and he who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil. He says of the welding, "It is good." He nails down the idol so it will not topple.238
