Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows,1 yet we considered him stricken by God,2 smitten by him, and afflicted.35
But he was pierced4 for our transgressions,5 he was crushed6 for our iniquities; the punishment7 that brought us peace8 was upon him, and by his wounds9 we are healed.106
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,11 each of us has turned to his own way;12 and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity13 of us all.
He was oppressed14 and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;15 he was led like a lamb16 to the slaughter,17 and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
By oppressiona and judgment18 he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living;19 for the transgression20 of my people he was stricken.b9
He was assigned a grave with the wicked,21 and with the rich22 in his death, though he had done no violence,23 nor was any deceit in his mouth.2410
Yet it was the LORD's will25 to crush26 him and cause him to suffer,27 and though the LORD makesc his life a guilt offering,28 he will see his offspring29 and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper30 in his hand.
After the suffering31 of his soul, he will see the light32 [of life]d and be satisfiede; by his knowledgef my righteous servant33 will justify34 many, and he will bear their iniquities.35
