"After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch1 son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
"Ah, Sovereign LORD,2 you have made the heavens and the earth3 by your great power and outstretched arm.4 Nothing is too hard5 for you.
You show love6 to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps7 of their children8 after them. O great and powerful God,9 whose name is the LORD Almighty,1019
great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.11 Your eyes are open to all the ways of men;12 you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.1320
You performed miraculous signs and wonders14 in Egypt15 and have continued them to this day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown16 that is still yours.
You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand17 and an outstretched arm18 and with great terror.1922
You gave them this land you had sworn to give their forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.2023
They came in and took possession21 of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law;22 they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster23 upon them.
"See how the siege ramps24 are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague,25 the city will be handed over to the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said26 has happened,27 as you now see.
And though the city will be handed over to the Babylonians, you, O Sovereign LORD, say to me, 'Buy the field28 with silver and have the transaction witnessed.29' "
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
"I am the LORD, the God of all mankind.30 Is anything too hard for me?31
