And 1Jesusreturned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and 2newsabout Him spreadthroughall the surroundingdistrict.
And He began 3teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.
And He came to 4Nazareth, where He had beenbrought up; and as was His custom, 5He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and 6stood up to read.
And the abook of the prophetIsaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the bbook and found the placewhere it was written,
18"7THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME,BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR.HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIMRELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES,AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND,TO SETFREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,198TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLEYEAR OF THE LORD."20
And He 9closed the cbook, gave it back to the attendant and 10satdown; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
And He began to say to them, "TodaythisScripture has been fulfilled in your dhearing."22
And all were espeakingwell of Him, and wondering at the fgraciouswords which gwere falling from His lips; and they were saying, "11Is this not Joseph'sson?"
And He said to them, "Nodoubt you will quotethisproverb to Me, 'Physician, healyourself! Whatever we heard was done12at Capernaum, dohere in 13your hometown as well.' "24
And He said, "Truly I say to you, 14noprophet is welcome in his hometown.25"But I say to you in truth, there were manywidows in Israel15in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for threeyears and sixmonths, when a greatfaminecameoverall the land;26and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but 16only to hZarephath, in the land of 17Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.27"And there were manylepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but 18onlyNaaman the Syrian."28
And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heardthesethings;
and they got up and 19drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff.
But 20passingthrough their midst, He went His way.
And 21He camedown to 22Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and He was teaching them on the Sabbath;
and 23they were amazed at His teaching, for 24His imessage was with authority.
In the synagogue there was a manjpossessed by the spirit of an uncleandemon, and he cried out with a loudvoice,
34"Let us alone! k25What business do we have with each other, Jesuslof 26Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I knowwho You are-27the HolyOne of God!"
But Jesus28rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst of the people, he came out of him withoutdoing him anyharm.
And amazementcame upon them all, and they began talking with oneanothersaying, "What is mthismessage? For 29with authority and power He commands the uncleanspirits and they come out."
And 30the reportabout Him was spreading into everylocality in the surroundingdistrict.
3831Then He got up and left the synagogue, and enteredSimon'shome. NowSimon'smother-in-law was 32suffering from a highfever, and they asked Him nto help her.
And standingover her, He 33rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she immediatelygot up and owaited on them.
4034While 35the sun was setting, allthosewhohad any who were sick with variousdiseasesbrought them to Him; and 36laying His hands on eachone of them, He was 37healing them.
41Demonsalso were coming out of many, shouting, "You are 38the Son of God!" But 39rebuking them, He would 40not allow them to speak, because they knew Him to be pthe Christ.
