Nevertheless, as surely as I live1 and as surely as the glory of the LORD2 fills the whole earth,322
not one of the men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs4 I performed in Egypt and in the desert but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times5--
not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath6 to their forefathers. No one who has treated me with contempt7 will ever see it.824
But because my servant Caleb9 has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly,10 I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.1125
Since the Amalekites12 and Canaanites13 are living in the valleys, turn14 back tomorrow and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea.a15"
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron:
"How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.1628
So tell them, 'As surely as I live,17 declares the LORD, I will do to you18 the very things I heard you say:
In this desert your bodies will fall19--every one of you twenty years old or more20 who was counted in the census21 and who has grumbled against me.
