Why have you rejected1 us forever,2 O God? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?32
Remember the people you purchased4 of old,5 the tribe of your inheritance,6 whom you redeemed7-- Mount Zion,8 where you dwelt.93
Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins,10 all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.
Your foes roared11 in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards12 as signs.
They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees.136
They smashed all the carved14 paneling with their axes and hatchets.
They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled15 the dwelling place16 of your Name.178
They said in their hearts, "We will crush18 them completely!" They burned19 every place where God was worshiped in the land.
We are given no miraculous signs;20 no prophets21 are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.
How long22 will the enemy mock23 you, O God? Will the foe revile24 your name forever?
Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand?25 Take it from the folds of your garment26 and destroy them!
