"1The LORD will bring a nationagainst you from afar, from the end of the earth, 2as the eagleswoopsdown, a nationwhoselanguage you shall not understand,
a nation of fiercecountenancewho will 3havenorespect for the old, norshowfavor to the young.
"Moreover, it shall eat the aoffspring of your herd and the produce of your grounduntil you are destroyed, who also leaves you nograin, newwine, or oil, nor the increase of your herd or the young of your flockuntil they have caused you to perish.
"4It shall besiege you in all your btownsuntil your high and fortifiedwalls in which you trustedcomedownthroughout your land, and it shall besiege you in all your ctownsthroughout your landwhich the LORD your God has given you.
"5Then you shall eat the doffspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughterswhom the LORD your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will eoppress you.
"The man who is frefined and verydelicate among you gshall be hostile toward his brother and toward the wifehhe cherishes and toward the rest of his childrenwhoremain,
55so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his childrenwhich he will eat, since he has nothing else left, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will ioppress you in all your jtowns.
"6The krefined and delicatewoman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and lrefinement, mshall be hostile toward the husbandnshe cherishes and toward her son and daughter,
and toward her afterbirth which issues from between her olegs and toward her childrenwhom she bears ; for 7she will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will poppress you in your qtowns.
58"If you are not careful to observeall the words of thislaw which are written in thisbook, to r8fearthishonored and awesome9name, sthe LORD your God,
then the LORD will bringextraordinaryplagues on you and tyour descendants, even usevere and lastingplagues, and miserable and chronicsicknesses.
"10He will bringback on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you.
61"Alsoeverysickness and everyplaguewhich, not written in the book of thislaw, the LORD will bring on you 11until you are destroyed.
"Then you shall be leftfew in number, 12whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not vobey the LORD your God.
"It shall come about that as the LORD13delightedover you to prosper you, and multiply you, so the LORD will 14delightover you to make you perish and destroy you; and you will be 15torn from the landwhere you are entering to possess it.
"Moreover, the LORD will 16scatter you among allpeoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth ; and there you shall 17serveothergods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known.
"18Among thosenations you shall findnorest, and there will be norestingplace for the sole of your foot ; but there19the LORD will give you a tremblingheart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul.
"So your life shall whang in doubt before you; and you will be in dreadnight and day, and shall havenoassurance of your life.
"20In the morning you shall say, 'Would that it were evening !' And at evening you shall say, 'Would that it were morning !' because of the dread of your heartwhich you dread, and for the sight of your eyeswhich you will see.
"The LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I spoke to you, 'You will neversee it again !' And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and femaleslaves , but there will be nobuyer."
