God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai1 your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.216
I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her.3 I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations;4 kings of peoples will come from her."
Abraham fell facedown;5 he laughed6 and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old?7 Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"818
And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael9 might live under your blessing!"1019
Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son,11 and you will call him Isaac.a12 I will establish my covenant with him13 as an everlasting covenant14 for his descendants after him.
And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.15 He will be the father of twelve rulers,16 and I will make him into a great nation.1721
But my covenant18 I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you19 by this time next year."2022
When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.21
